How to Make an Old Pallet Garden Walkway

How to Make an Old Pallet Garden Walkway
Supplies:
Pallets
Nails and/or screws

It seems odd to say that a person might fall in love with a pallet. Of course, it's not a traditional kind of love, but the type of love where a common thing comes into your life, and it makes you very happy. You might have made some pallet pieces already, such as a pallet couch, shed, desk, or table. But no matter what project you have in mind while you're saving pallets now, scrap that idea for the moment, and build yourself a charming garden path. When you tear apart pallets you can turn the wooden planks into a pathway that looks like it was taken from a fairy tale.
A little path of wooden planks is an adorable look in most any garden. The planks can actually carry you over a tiny stream or can be placed directly onto the ground. You'll need a few pallets so start saving them and you'll soon have enough. Or, go to an online auction, or a home improvement place, and purchase them. Another choice is to inquire at grocery stores, and other places, to see if they have some that they are giving away; many places don't reuse the pallets.
How many pallets you'll need is dependent on how long you want the path to be. After gathering them, use a claw hammer to remove the nails that hold the wood pieces together. Or, cut the parts of the wood out that have no nails in it. All of the wood planks don't have to be the exact same size but they should be close in length for a more uniform look.
It's easy to smooth the ground where each end of each pallet will rest. Pound each pallet end with a rubber mallet or other heavy object to further steady each board. If the pallet boards will be used to make a pathway over a stream, lay the boards out in a line, and screw other boards across them, vertically. Flip the arrangement over and then lay it across the stream. The boards will help to support the pallet planks.
Create a rustic look by tearing apart pallets and laying down the boards in your garden. Or, cut every board exactly the same, paint them, and create a much newer appearance. The garden path is actually very easy to make and becomes a substantial piece in your yard - for little to no money at all!
