One of the things I fear most about pregnancy is the nausea and vomiting that occurs usually within the first three to four months and for some, throughout the entire pregnancy. I can't help but wonder how the baby would get nutrients if virtually everything the mother eats is thrown back up.
The following tips would help make the symptoms more bearable:
1) Ginger consumption in whatever form (ginger ale, ginger snaps and ginger supplements) would help to reduce nausea and vomiting.
2) Small doses of vitamin C (less than 10mg daily) and large doses of vitamin K (2-5mg daily) may help with morning sickness. However, vitamin K may react with any supplements you may be taking to treat blood clotting issues, so be sure to let your doctor know if you are taking such supplements.
3) Unless it is absolutely necessary, avoid taking iron supplements because it could cause nausea, bloating, flatulence, vomiting and gas.
4) Do not eat large meals. Eating small amounts of food throughout the course of the day is best. Also, drink lots of water and fluids to prevent dehydration.
5) Eat food rich in protein, minerals, healthy fats and vitamins such as cheese, meat, beans, soy and nuts. Avoid junk food as much as possible.
6) Take note of unpleasant smells that trigger feelings of nausea and vomiting and ensure that you avoid such smells.
7) Eat whenever you feel like eating; your body knows when it can tolerate food and at such times, make sure you eat healthy foods.
It is so comforting to know that every case of morning sickness ends right after the baby is born. These seven tips should certainly help if they are followed.
