I've always felt that winter was an under-utilized season for weddings. Sure, outdoor ceremonies are pretty much off the table, but how pretty is lightly falling snow and icicles? It's a perfect time of year for cozy or formal wedding bashes. Here are my top three ideas.
Modern Winter Wonderland
If your idea of the ideal wedding is something sleek and chic, a modern wedding with snowy and shiny accents will work perfectly. Your color scheme could be almost any color, as long as white or silver is one of them to accent the season. You could even do black (or white) tie if you want something really fancy. White roses are a no-brainer, and a bouquet made of the white blooms and silver brooches, like this one on Etsy, is stunning. Alternatively, if your wedding is outside, you could place your hands in a muff with jewels or brooches pinned on to keep your hands toasty. White candles will create a romantic mood at the reception while making all your sparkly details shine. For dessert, treat your guests to a caramel apple bar, where they can choose candies and toppings to roll their apples in!
Nostalgic Victorian
For fans of all things vintage, a Victorian-themed wedding may be just the thing. Victorians were fans of thick, luxurious fabrics; dark colors and ornate details. If you decide to go with this theme, it's hard to go overboard. Set the tone with your invitations. Go with a flowery script on a cream colored background. Filigree touches add an extra-special effect. Serve a rustic meal, and consider serving delicate cookies and biscuits for dessert. (With tea of course.) Christmas Holiday Themed
If you decide to schedule your wedding in December, you have the perfect opportunity to throw the most amazing Christmas party! With the spotlight still on the two of you, of course. Red and green is a no-brainer for color scheme, but make it a little more elegant but combing them with silver or gold. Instead of having your bridesmaids walk down the aisle with flower bouquets, have them hold sprigs of evergreen with tinsel. A rustic lodge, with roaring fire and Christmas tree, would make the reception feel extra cozy.
