Three Great Edible Christmas Crafts for Kids

Three Great Edible Christmas Crafts for Kids
Christmas is a great time to spend extra time together as a family and work on craft projects together. It is also a time when most of us indulge in extra treats and snacks. These three projects are all perfect for families to do together. Your kids will love making and eating these cute, festive projects.

Cookie Christmas Trees

If you can make cookies, you can make cookie Christmas trees. You can buy pre-made kits at the store to make these and still have fun assembling them. To bake them yourself, just bake cookies of different sizes. It looks great with star shaped cookies, but you could also do it with other shapes. Then stack the cookies up from biggest to smallest (put a little icing between layers to hold it together). Put the smallest star at the top for the star on top of the tree.
To decorate, let your kids go crazy with icing. We like using green icing to make it look like a tree. Then add candy and sprinkles for decorations. Even toddlers will love this project and create cute trees. When you're done, it's easy to either leave as a decoration, or for everyone to grab a cookie from the stack to enjoy.

Gingerbread Houses

I love gingerbread houses. If you want the easiest option, like with the cookie trees, you can buy gingerbread house kits at the grocery store and simply use those. Everything is included, so there's no preparation work and you can just skip straight to the fun parts.
For another easy option, cheat. Instead of using actual gingerbread, use graham crackers or similar cookies and crackers to assemble your gingerbread house. You can also buy pre-made frosting. This is perfect for making small, sturdy gingerbread houses for children. Then let them enjoy decorating their houses however they want. My kids loved decorating their gingerbread houses, and - after about a week - loved smashing them and snacking on them.
For the most authentic gingerbread house, enjoy the whole process of baking your own gingerbread and making your own icing. This is the most time consuming option, but it can also yield the yummiest and most beautiful results.

Edible Wreaths

At Christmas time, wreaths suddenly adorn every building. You can make your own edible wreath with either cupcakes or cookies. Simply group the desserts into a circle, and let your kids enjoy decorating them like a wreath. As long as you keep the circle shape, it will look like a wreath (more or less). It is also easy to eat and share as it is made up of smaller pieces.
