The "Fare" Guide to Super Bowl Appetizers

The "Fare" Guide to Super Bowl Appetizers
As the eve of Super Bowl XLVIII quickly approaches, the time has come to retrieve and dust off that vintage but reliable crockpot you received from the in-laws last Christmas. From finger foods skewered with those little toothpicks and displayed on your finest chinaware, to the vast array of chip or cracker dips kept warm in those crockpots, the meal offered for this national pastime is held in as much revere as Thanksgiving dinner. Please allow this to serve as a "fare" guide to the appetizers you offer this Super Bowl Sunday.

Cheese Ball

An appetizer that has become a staple offering at many a social gatherings, the cheese ball can be simply prepared using a variety of eccentric ingredients that will be sure to please any palate. Go with the dried beef cheese ball for a safe, mild flavor. By merely combining the ingredients (all amounts dependent upon your sample size) of cream cheese, onions, dried beef and Worcestershire, the most novice of chefs can achieve this appetizer served with crackers or chips. For a spicy twist, blend in some taco seasoning mix.

Little Smokies

These classics are available in all beef, turkey, cheddar and sausage varieties in addition to a few other exotic flavors. Regardless of what variety you choose, these miniature links of sausage are sure to be a delight before, during and after the game. Just dump them in a crockpot, add your favorite barbecue sauce and heat. Insert toothpick, eat and repeat! Hand a bottle of hot sauce to that one guest complaining about their bland taste.

Taco Salad

Albeit slightly more labor intensive than other appetizers, this dish will leave your guests raving and begging for the recipe before departing. Combining cooked and crumbled ground beef with chopped lettuce, green peppers, tomato, onions and shredded cheddar cheese provides the base to this salad. Add French dressing and top with nacho cheese flavored chips just prior to serving.

Beer Cheese Dip

A recipe that requires no introduction. Any appetizer containing beer--with alcohol or not--will be an instant hit on Super Bowl Sunday. Similar to a standard cheese ball recipe, fold together cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, ranch dressing mix and your favorite beer. Again to be served with chips, crackers, pretzels, etc.

Seafood Dip

A prerequisite for any social gathering is at least one appetizer for that difficult to please guest. After all, is it even possible to turn your nose up at the offering of baby shrimp and crabmeat? Combine the cooked seafood to these additional ingredients: mayonnaise, sour cream, cream cheese, cocktail sauce, chopped tomato, onion and green pepper. Chill and top with mozzarella cheese prior to serving.
Equipped with this list, you are now ready to prepare the finest array of appetizers and entertain your guests whilst taking in Super Bowl XLVIII!
