Many a couple decide that they want a canopy at their wedding, but after checking on the price of such, decide to forget the canopy, and use the money towards more flowers, extra food, or other decorations. A wedding canopy can be so expensive and when will you ever use it again? Even if you sell it after the wedding, you won't get your full money back, so maybe it just isn't worth it. But there's a canopy that anyone can put up for a wedding and, even though it's made of silk, satin, linen, or other fabric, there is no sewing needed. Interested? Get your choice of cloth and you can quickly make a canopy over the spot where the vows will be recited, over the guest signature book, or elsewhere at the reception.
A canopy doesn't have to be an enclosure; it can be a partial enclosure - made just for looks. Withyardage, you can make the canopy, and it will look fantastic. Shop a local store to find cloth on a markdown rack or go online to look for fabric deals at an auction or store. White is a good color, but you could also use pink, blue, yellow, or another color of fabric. Silk or satin make lovely canopies but can be expensive. Linen is beautiful and less costly. Tulle is lightweight, comes in gorgeous colors, and is not especially expensive. You'll decide how much yardage that you need by measuring the area where you will hang the canopy.
To make the canopy, you'll need two long pieces of cloth, with a string tied around the middle of each. Create a plus sign (+) on the ceiling with the two pieces of cloth, securing them with cup hooks, nails, or even glue dots. Create a square of points around the center, making four dots, where the cloth will go next. Tie a string around the area on the cloth that will meet with the ceiling. Hang the cloth there, and then let the rest hang down freely. Do that to all four sides of the cloth. So, you'll end up with both cloth pieces crossed in the middle, and then each of the four cloth pieces (two on each side of the center), connected to the ceiling, as far out as you want them to go.
A wedding canopy is quite beautiful and can be used in any number of ways. After the ceremony, you have cloth that hasn't been cut or sewn, so you can use it to make anything from curtains, to quilts, to sheets.
