How to Wear Black Lipstick

Black lipstick isn’t just for those brave Goth girls! In case you haven’t been paying attention, dark lipstick looks are all over the runways. Learn how to wear black lipstick like a supermodel.
Want to try something daring? Pair that slinky black dress with velvet black lipstick. Ooh la-la! Dark lipstick isn't just for pop stars like Lady Gaga or edgy actresses like Winona Ryder. Black lipstick is for everyone but unlike light colors (like a soft pink) dark lips really stand out. You need to wear this trendy makeup with attitude. Ready to give it a try?
What should you look for? Like any makeup product, no one size fits all. Have you ever coveted your best friend's eyeshadow, snuck out to purchase it but it looked terrible on you? Yep! That's because your skin tones are different. For the perfect black lipstick, you need to try a few on. That means you'll have to visit the makeup counter. Typically, lipstick, including black shades come in three types: satin, glossy or creamy. Glossy lipstick leaves you with a wet look. Satin is matte and creamy lipsticks are basically a combination. You get to pick which one works for you.
Here's how to wear black lipstick. Keep in mind that this super dark shade naturally thins the lips.

Prime your lips

It will grab the color and keep it in place, longer. Primer gives any lipstick a truer, deeper color. Also, if you intend to smooch, walk in the rain or sweat it out on the dance floor, you need a primer.

Line lips slightly outside the natural lip line

As mentioned earlier, dark lipstick has a tendency to make lips look thinner than they are. One way you can counteract this unwanted side effect is to line outside your natural lip line with black eyeliner. Draw from the outside of the lip to the center, stopping at the center point. Do the same for the opposite side. Once you've lined top and bottom you're ready to put on some dark lipstick.

Brush on lipstick carefully

Because this color is so unforgiving, you need to apply it carefully. Brush on black lipstick with a lipstick brush.

Finish with a clear gloss for a deep, wet shine.

You can wear this lipstick style with confidence!
