Every winter, my family would bake all sorts of treats for our friends and neighbors-- fudge, peppermint candy, and my personal favorite: the sugar cookie. As I got older, I found new ways to make the cookies even more delicious and allow them to melt in your mouth. Here's a tried-and-true recipe for the best from-scratch sugar cookies and icing you will ever try.
General:
- Yields ~2.5 dozen cookies
- Baking time: 7 min.
- Oven: 350 degrees Fahrenheit
Cookie Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus a little to sprinkle on the counter top
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Iodized Salt
- 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of milk
- OPTIONAL: Sprinkles
Supplies:
- Whisk or electric mixer
- Large mixing bowl
- Plenty of counter space
- Oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
- Baking Sheet
- Cookie cutters
- Measuring Cups
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
- Mix egg, sugar, milk, salt, baking powder, butter or margarine, and sprinkles together.
- Slowly add flour until a thick consistency. **NOTE** Extra flour may be needed for this step if your dough is very sticky.
- Sprinkle flour on your baking space. This will keep the dough from sticking to your counter tops.
- Roll and flatten dough with your palms.
- Use cookie cutters to cut cookies into fun shapes. Place on baking sheet
- Bake for 7 minutes. Add icing shortly after removing cookies from the oven.
