Five Steps How Dogs Can Qualify for the Annual Westminster Dog Show

Five Steps How Dogs Can Qualify for the Annual Westminster Dog Show
Each year in February at Madison Square Garden, the Westminster American Kennel Club dog show takes place, where different pet owners come together for two days of competitive activities for their pets. This show features hundreds of dogs from all across the world. This year Westminster American Kennel Club dog show will take place on February 10th & 11th. If you believe you have a recognized pedigree that is capable of winning, here are five steps on how to enter your pet into this dog show.

Step One: You firstly need to register your dog with the American Kennel Club or an approved foreign registry.
Step Two: Complete an AKC conformation championship title for your dog. Before registry your pet must have a championship title because the Westminster Kennel Club dog show is a competition for conformation champions only.
Step Three: Once your dog passes the application and receives a Westminster invitation, pet owners need to make sure they respond to the invitation within the specified deadline. Also they need to make sure they check the breed kennel club standing for their dog and verify that all the points their dog earned are on the list. It is important that the points earned are accurate because the standings are determined for points earned from January 1st until October 31st of the preceding year.
Step Four: If for some reason you do not receive a Westminster invitation, it is the owner's responsibility to complete an entry form for their dog and make sure they meet the deadlines for the current year that is listed at Infodog, AKC and Westminster Kennel Club Show sites.
Step Five: Pet owners need to enter as soon as possible because the registration procedure limits entries to the first 2,500 received. They need to place one entry form and fee per dog in an envelope and make sure it is sent through first class mail, United States Postal Service, according to Westminster Kennel Dog Show regulations.
The Westminster Dog Show started in 1877 and is one of the longest-running shows of its kind. It features a two-day event where pet owners are given an opportunity to show off their championship title pet. The Westminster Dog Show is different from other dog shows like the AKC Eukanuba Championship, because the latter does not require pets to be championship title pets. The Westminster Dog Show canines on categories such as Best in Group, Best of Breed and Best in Show, etc. If you feel you have a pet with all these qualities, and much more, this is one fierce competition you won't want to miss out on.
