Everything You Need for Grooming Your Dog

Everything You Need for Grooming Your Dog
There comes a time for many dog owners when they need to get their dog groomed. Like visiting the mechanic for car repairs, we rely on the experts--in this case the groomers. Whether you are grooming your own dog or somebody else's, these are the items you should include in your kit.

Dematting Comb

Dog breeds like poodles, Shih Tzu, and Maltese are highly capable of becoming matted. Matting can cause pain if it gets out of hand. When a dog becomes severely matted, the only way to groom them without causing a lot of pain is with a full-shave down. One way to prevent taking off all of the hair is by using a dematting comb. This can be done as a preventative during the groom or beforehand.

Brushes and Combs

The same way we need brushes and combs for our own hair, a groomed dog will need them for their fur. This helps smooth the fur out and straighten. The 'Furminator Professional Dual Bristle/Pin Brush' is a brush that offers two options based on your needs.

Blow Dryer

For those who groom several dogs or are frequent groomers, you may want to consider getting a blow dryer. Even for the occasional groomer, a blow dryer is essential in some form as an incompletely dried dog can cause matting. You cannot go wrong with whatever kind of blow dryer you go with. Do not be surprised if your dog appears terrified by the blow dryer. Introduce it properly and not as a machine they should fear.

Nail Grinder

Many dogs will hate to have their nails trimmed. Something that to humans causes no pain when we do it can be frightening and painful for dogs. The reason for this is a vein that grows halfway down the nail. Instead of trimming and risking cutting the vein you can get a nail grinder. This will save any bleeding the nail trim may normally cause.

Clippers

As the paintbrush is to the artist, the clippers are to the groomer. A reliable pair of clippers is essential for a groomer to succeed. Clippers will receive a lot of abuse and getting attached is not recommended. Pick up a new pair once the others have worn out their welcome.

Shampoo

The right shampoo for a dog requires knowledge of their allergies and needs. If you are unaware, the best thing you can do is keep it simple. Dog shampoo, as they do with human shampoo, have chemicals. The less it contains the safer the bath will be--and safety always the most important thing when it comes to dog care.
