Feta Cheese Makes a Great Topping for Foods, and May Help Reduce Belly Fat

Feta Cheese Makes a Great Topping for Foods, and May Help Reduce Belly Fat
Feta cheese originated thousands of years ago, in the areas we now know, as Bulgaria and Greece. Feta is a traditional classic Greek curd cheese, that is still made with unpasteurized milk, by shepherds today. Initially Feta cheese was made with sheep or goats milk.
Today, pasteurized cows milk is used when Feta cheese is made to be sold commercially. Feta cheese is white, and has a higher salt content than other cheeses. Feta has close to 5% salt, while most other cheeses have about 2%. Feta is most often formed into squares.
Feta cheese, is salted and cured in a brine solution,(either whey or water ), for a time from one week, up to a month. This is why it is sometimes referred to as a pickled cheese. You can decrease thesodium content, by soaking the cheese for a few minutes in water.
I recently purchased a 4 oz. container of Athenos crumbled Feta cheese, with basil and tomato. I mixed the cheese with mustard and turnip greens, and also put it on my garden salads. I found the taste to be zesty, and simply delicious. it is also filling.
I also sprinkle the feta on spinach pizza, garlic toast, and add it to sandwiches. Crumbled Feta has also been used to spice up the flavor of various salads, and tomatoes. It is also sometimes used as a filling for puff pastries.
Feta cheese also has health benefits. It has about 33% less calories, and 1/3rd less fat, than other cheeses. Because of it's calcium content, Feta may also help decrease belly fat, which may contribute to in weight loss. Calorie and nutrient content will vary depending on the type of milk used to make the cheese.
The Athenos crumbled Feta cheese has 70 calories per serving, which is 1/4 cup. Each serving has 18% saturated fat, 14% sodium, 1 gram fiber, 5 grams of protein, and 70 calories. It also has 6% of both calcium and vitamin A. .If you are looking for a delicious, nutritious, low calorie topping for your meals, I suggest Feta cheese.
