The weather's cold outside, so you have plenty of reason to stay inside and work on quick craft projects. Decorate your home for Valentine's Day to bring more color into your interior, and enjoy the last winter holiday before the temperature starts to warm.
Candle Craft
Make ordinary pillar candles look amazing with simple ribbon. Wrap red or pink ribbon around a white candle. With a little glue the ribbon will stay in place, and it can be removed after the holiday is over if desired.
Give your white pillar candles more color with tissue paper. Cut small hearts of out pink or red paper and use a little glue to attach them right to the surface of the candle. Use thin sheets of paper for the hearts, because they won't smell so bad as they burn with the candle.
Paper Flowers
There are a variety of flowers that can be made with nothing more than paper, scissors, glue and a little creativity.
Cut a strip of crepe paper about 20 inches long. All along one long edge of the strip, cut petal shapes (points, fringe or arcs). Leave the opposite edge intact. Glue a piece of florist wire all along the bottom edge of your paper. Roll the wire a little to wrap it in the paper. Now roll the flower from the other end, fluffing as you roll to create a blossom. The flowers that result are easy to make and look great for Valentine's Day. Use red or pink paper so they really fit the theme of the day.
Take your paper flowers to the next level by forming rosette kissing balls. Cut strips of crepe paper about 2 feet long and roll them into rosettes. Use glue to hold the rosettes closed. Make at least one dozen such rosettes to form your ball.
Glue the flowers onto a round Styrofoam ball (available at craft and florist shops). If you don't have a foam ball, make a ball out of old newspaper (this will be a little bit heavier). Once the rosette is complete, use a pin to attach a long piece of ribbon to the ball. Now the kissing ball can be hung wherever you like.
Love Crafts
When ribbons and paper flowers aren't quite enough, go the extra mile with some paper hearts. Use wrapping paper to make them look fancy, and cut out perfect shapes by tracing a heart cookie cutter on the paper first. Dangle the hearts at the ends of ribbons to create movement and color.
Use simple Valentine's Day crafts to add color and beauty to your home this winter, and brighten up the season while you wait for spring.
