If you can't get enough of Jennifer Lawrence (and that's everyone but Joan Rivers) give her latest fantastic retro hair in American Hustle a try. Her copious updo looks complicated (at times) but it is easy to copy. Put the flat iron away girl, and grab the hot rollers. You will also need bobby pins, hairspray and a teasing comb. It's a playful, playtime look for any woman who has mid length to long hair.
Ready to copy Jennifer Lawrence's American Hustle hairstyle? Start with brushed, dry hair. You need medium and large hot rollers. (Velvet covered rollers work best. They cut down on hair damage!) Starting at the crown, lift up a 2 to 3 inch swatch of hair using the comb tip. Roll the hair under with the hot roller and secure it to your scalp with a clip. Place two more large rollers at the back of your head.
Section off hair in 2 to 3-inch swatches at the top of the left side and place two more rollers under it rolling up all the hair. Do the same for the opposite side of the head. For the front, you'll section off two areas and roll them under but the curl should face forward not back. Lightly spray your entire head of hair. Leave the rollers in your hair until the rollers are completely cool. (It's a retro styling move that works!)
Remove all the rollers and clips. Loosen those Jennifer Lawrence curls with your fingers--don't brush them. Now comes the fun part! Section off the bangs with a comb and secure them off to one side with a flat clip. You can do the updo portion two different ways.
One easy way is to gather all the hair, except what you have sectioned off into a loose ponytail at the top/back of your head. Secure it with a nude elastic. Take each individual curl and wrap it into a spiral, then pin it into place. You want to create a cascade of curls around the ponytail. The bobby pins should be hidden.
Another way get this American Hustle inspired look is to use a French twist. Gather all the hair in your hands, except the bangs and pull it to the back of your head like a ponytail. Instead of making a ponytail, twist the hair twice then grasp the end and roll it against your head. (It sounds harder than it actually is.) Secure it with bobby pins. The curls should spill out of the top of the twist, Jennifer Lawrence style.
With a rat tail comb, pull out long pieces of hair above your ears. Arrange the curls with your fingers and release the bangs from the clip. Use the fine tooth comb to lift the hair at the roots. Spray once (or twice) more, allowing the hair to dry in between applications.
That's it! You've got the perfect party hair, just like American Hustle!
