What Kind of Cat Should You Buy?

What Kind of Cat Should You Buy?
There is nothing wrong with a shelter cat. In fact you can often find purebred cats in the shelter. If you have a choice though, what kind should you get? Check out these cat breeds and see which one fits you.

For College Students

Many college students miss their furry friends so a cat can be a great solution because they need less constant attention than their canine counterparts. Which cat is best for a college student. An ideal cat for a college student is affectionate, quiet, independent and requires little maintenance. The kind of cat most recommended by Animal Planet is the British Shorthair. Harrison Weir can be thanked for the modern British Shorthair. He had the breed recognized in the late 1800s. They are described as being affectionate not clingy.

For the Elderly

The elderly generally enjoy having cats to lavish with affection and attention. Something playful, but calm with a good tolerance. For this Animal Planet suggests the Exotic Shorthair. It is a mix of the American Shorthair and the Persian. It is playful enough but also enjoys a good nap. It has a lower maintenance coat and are good with other pets.

For the Family

A family is active and will likely have other pets. The cat for this family needs to be very tolerant and willing to interact with children. For this Animal Planet thinks that a Manx is a great fit. This unique cats have a bob tail, and enjoy a good game of fetch. They might even enjoy water, if it is their idea. The Manx came from the Isle of Man, and have been wildly popular.

For a Barn Cat

A barn cat refers to a cat that lives mainly in the barn of an agricultural area to help deal with the rodents. Ideally they are independent and happier away from people, that way they will do their job and not be a nuisance. They are hardy. Most cats would like a warm place to curl up though, so be sure to provide a place or allow them to spend some time in the home. I suggest the Maine Coon. The breed's fluffy coat are good enough to keep them warm. They are also large enough and clever enough to ward off the predators. They love attention more than the ideal barn cat, but their other qualities are just too great. So make sure to give this barn cat lots of attention.

For the Single Young Adult

There is frequently this awkward stage in many young adult's life where they are living on their own because financially they are able, but no one truly likes to live alone. This type of person needs a cat to spend time with, but also is cool enough for them. they still care about that. For this person I have come up with a tie between the Balinese and the Snowshoe. Young adults will love these cats because of the pop culture similarities (grumpy cat anyone?), and they are a good fit for their lifestyle as well. Snowshoe's are intelligent. They can be taught multiple tricks. Both breeds are plenty vocal. Balinese are agile and known for riding on owners' shoulders. They are also very sensitive to their owners moods. Both types are great for the young adult type who really need a companion.

I've heard complaints about cats from many people but it is my theory that it is because people aren't getting the right cats for them. Use this guide to find the right cat for you and I bet you won't have a complaint to be found.
