Unique and Striking Ways to Use Wall Mirrors Above a Fireplace Mantel - Impressive DIY Decorating Options

Unique and Striking Ways to Use Wall Mirrors Above a Fireplace Mantel - Impressive DIY Decorating Options
Those with a fireplace have a head start when it comes to decorating. Even without mantel and hearth decor, it is already the focal point of the room. Add something unique and stylish above the hearth and it will look spectacular. Mirrors are an excellent choice, especially when trying to create a sophisticated space for entertaining. Instead of hanging a simple framed mirror directly above the mantel, consider these unique ways to create a dramatic display. You can create striking DIY arrangements that are sure to impress.

Arrange Circular Mirrors with Square Varieties That Have Curved Sides

Mirrors come in countless sizes, styles and shapes, and one of the most striking modern arrangements includes both round mirrors and coordinating square elements that have curved sides. To create a gorgeous design on the wall above the fireplace mantel, begin by hanging a square mirror in the center. The round ones will fit beautifully around it. Finish the design by placing four square ones in the corners. They should all be equally spaced approximately two to three inches apart.

Mount Graduating Sizes Horizontally above the Mantel

When trying to make a dramatic statement with mirrors, hang them horizontally in graduating sequences. Mount the largest one in the center, and add equal numbers on both sides. They should range from largest to smallest. If desired, angle them from the top of the larger one in the center to about 18 inches above the mantel. You will retain plenty of space for candles, wood carvings, faux plants or decor of your choice. Mount the mirrors lower and they will reflect the backs of the decorative pieces.

Hang an Over-Sized Etched Mirror on the Wall above the Fireplace

Etched mirrors are not out of style. On the contrary, some of the most striking pieces are beautifully etched and meticulously designed. As the photo shows, an over-sized etched mirror looks phenomenal above a fireplace mantel. Although it is not at eye-level, it will reflect other parts of the room while creating an ever-changing display around the decorative portions. Look for a work of reflective art that is the same width as the fireplace surround. It will give the entire display a more majestic appearance.
