Small House Versus a Big House: Which is the Better Option?

Small House Versus a Big House: Which is the Better Option?
When looking for a first home, many tend to see if they can get the biggest house possible. However, having a small house also has many benefits. So, which is the best option for your family? The key is to take the time, and evaluate the benefits of each one. I thought it would be a good idea to list the pros and cons of both. Perhaps this will help you with your decision of which one is best for your family.

The Pros of a small house

One of the first benefits is that you will save money on utilities and expenses. With a smaller house you will not need to have lots of lights on. Most of the family will spend their time in the same area of the house. This brings me to the next benefit: Your family will be better friends. Families that spend more quality time together, form closer bonds. Less time cleaning up the yard, and less maintenance.

The Pros of a large house

Depending on the size of your family you may need to purchase a large home, just so everyone has a place to sleep. A large house can also give you the ability to have more family visits for longer periods of time. You can have parties for your kids, and perhaps even use a portion of the house for an at home business.

The Cons of a small house

So what are the negative facets to having a small home? You could end up getting on each other's nerves. When a large family is stuffed into a small space, this can sometimes cause stress. Especially if the family begins to outgrow the house as they get bigger.

The Cons of a big house

When it comes to a big home, you can count on having more things to repair. You will also probably have a larger yard to tend to, which means more work. A bigger house also costs a lot more in utilities. You will pay a larger bill, to heat the home and to keep it cool in the summer. A higher tax bill is also another thing you have to consider. A bigger house can sometimes mean this depending on the area that you live in.

So, which is really the better option? Well that is completely a personal choice. Take a look at some of the ideas listed and perhaps you will think of a few more to add to the Pros, or Cons category.
