Make Your Own Geometric Wood Trivet

Make Your Own Geometric Wood Trivet
Supplies:

Small, thin, geometric wood shapes
Wood glue

Do you have a favorite geometric shape? Some people, when pressed for an answer, might say it's a circle, because it's a shape that we see everyday in our lives. Another person might say that a square is the best geometric shape because it can also be a diamond. But whatever your favorite geometric shape is, you can turn it into a useful trivet, and spend very little time or money to make it. A geometric wood trivet is crafted the way that you want it because you are the designer!
Craft stores often feature bags of wooden shapes that are perfect for designing a new trivet. The wood shapes are unfinished, not too thick, and available in shapes like circles, squares, rectangles, ovals, and stars. Some shapes are easy to make into a wood trivet but others are more challenging. So, it's recommended that you choose one of the easy shapes, like circles, squares, or rectangles. If you decide that you want to paint the geometric shapes, wait until you're finished making the trivet.
The wooden, geometric shapes are small and come in a bag of several. It could take just one bag, or more, depending on the design and the size of your desired trivet. Lay out the shapes and arrange a design that you like. An easy but cute arrangement is done with circle pieces of wood, and a triangle shape. Lay one circle on a table or other flat surface, glue two other circles together, and then glue the first circle to the two circles. Center the first circle on top of the other two. That gives you a row of one, a row of two, and then you can make a row of three. Stop there, or make a fourth row, depending on the size that you want.
Wood glue works fine to attach the geometric shapes to each other but don't use hot glue. A hot item placed on the trivet will cause the hot glue to let go. Apply wood glue, push the two shapes together, and allow them to dry. You might want to also glue on a piece of felt to the bottom of the finished trivet. It can protect the table and give the design a more finished look.
Make square trivets - from squares or rectangles - or create your own shapes. Use the trivets to protect counters in the kitchen or tables in the kitchen and dining room. The geometric shape trivets are good choices because they look attractive, are fast to make, and are very inexpensive.
