How to Turn Small Hotel Soaps Into Larger Bars

How to Turn Small Hotel Soaps Into Larger Bars
The complimentary bars of soap that are provided by hotels and motels are too good to leave behind, but they tend to collect dust at home. No one wants to use them because they are too small. They are still worth saving because they can be reshaped and reused in much more sensible ways. Rectangular blocks are far easier to handle, and they last a lot longer in the shower and bath. Use these easy instructions for turning small hotel soaps into much larger bars, and save money by reshaping and reusing the miniatures.

Necessary Supplies

To make larger bars out of small hotel soaps you will need a metal cheese grater, a large bowl, a cup of water, a teaspoon and the soap that you plan to use. You will also need something of the appropriate size for forming them into bars. Consider using small silicone loaf pans or a larger one. If the resulting shape is too large, a sharp knife with a thin blade will be required. You will not need to melt the soap or add anything else to the mixture.

Procedure

Begin by shredding the small hotel soaps with the cheese grater. One by one, grate them over the bowl until they are all finely shredded. Add one teaspoon of water, and begin blending the grated mixture with your bare hands. If the mixture is too dry, add water a teaspoon at a time until achieving the right texture. It should feel like modeling clay.
After attaining the proper consistency, press it into the rectangular shaped pan(s). Place the silicone pans in the refrigerator until the contents are chilled and fully set. Carefully pop them out, and wrap them in paper bag material or waxed paper, or store them in plastic zipper bags until ready to use.

How to Enhance the Fragrance

If your hotel soaps do not smell good or have no scent at all, enhance them with essential oil. Select a scent that will complement the fragrance. Vanilla is a good choice. It can be successfully combined with almost any existing scent. Add several drops of essential oil to the soap and water mixture before blending and forming the bars. In addition to enhancing the scent, it will also soften the skin. The larger bars will be much more useful, and they will last for weeks instead of just a couple of days.
