How to Make an Easy No-Sew Glasses Case: Protect Your Eyeglasses from Scratches

Those who wear prescription eyeglasses usually receive a different case with every new pair. The cases are a dime a dozen until you need one. At that point they seem to vanish into thin air. Store-bought varieties are not necessary. Some of the most eye-catching holders of all are homemade no-sew coverings that work just as well. Consider these easy options that do not require a sewing machine, and protect your glasses from scratches while stored in your purse, glove box and other locations where they could become damaged.

Turn a Potholder into a Glasses Case

A thick potholder with an eye-catching design can be used to make a fantastic no-sew holder for glasses. Most include a handy loop that can be used for hanging and storing the finished case. Buy a hot pad in design and color of your choice along with a package of self-adhesive Velcro brand fasteners. Apply the fasteners along the inside edges, and fold it over to create a little pouch with an open end. The glasses will fit perfectly inside of the protective cloth case. No one will guess that it was once a potholder.

Transform a Tie into a Handy Holder

If you have ever closely examined a necktie, you might have noticed that the material is tube-shaped. Because they are open on one end, they make fantastic no-sew cases for glasses. Clip off the narrow end, and make the tube about four inches longer than required. Apply Fray Check to the ends to prevent fraying. Use color-coordinating fabric tape to secure the bottom. Add peel-and-stick Velcro to create a simple closure on the flap. It is a great way to use old ties that would otherwise end up in the trash or the giveaway pile.

Use a Cardboard Tube

If you would prefer a hard-sided case over a pouch made of cloth, use a cardboard tube. A portion of a cardboard wrapping paper tube is ideal. Place the eyeglasses inside before cutting the cardboard. Leave a couple of extra inches on one end. Wrap the entire tube with duct tape in a color and design of your choice. Push in the edges of one end to create a bottom, and apply the tape to keep it securely in place. With the glasses inside, carefully fold over and crease the other end. Apply peel-and-stick Velcro brand fasteners to create a closure for the case. It will work just as well as store-bought cases for glasses.
