After the holidays, a New Year's resolution that tops my list every year is to lose weight and every year I try in vain to stick to a weight loss plan. If I eat better, eat smaller portions, cut out sugar, and go to the gym more, I know I will lose weight.
The problem is actually sticking to a plan. I have good intentions but can never seem to stick to a diet for very long and I am always left wondering what went wrong. This year I am going about it differently. Can I possibly think myself thin?
If You Can Picture It, You Can Attain It
This year I am going to do it and you can too. I am a strong believer that if you can picture it, you can attain it. From now on think of yourself as a thin person and don't see yourself as anything but thin.
To shed pounds, keep this thought in mind and don't punish yourself to lose weight. To help maintain a new thin image, wear clothes that make you look thinner and stand up straight so when you catch a glimpse of yourself, you will see yourself as thin. Remember, if you can picture it, you can attain it.
Start Out Slowly and Be Grateful for Small Achievements
I enjoy walking so I will walk briskly with a purpose to keep thin. Whatever activity you enjoy doing, whether it is dancing, gardening, going to the park, walking in the mall, or even cleaning; picture yourself as thin and be grateful for any activity that helps you to stay thin.
When you eat a meal or snack, take your time, be thankful for the food, and enjoy every morsel! Keep in mind that you are a thin person that does not overindulge and that you intend to stay thin by slowing down and enjoying your food, eating smaller portions, and thinking differently from now on.
If you do overeat, do not feel badly about it; rather, hold the thin image of yourself that you have in your mind and try again at the next meal not to overindulge. Remember to drink enough water before and in between meals to help distinguish thirst from hunger.
Again, remember to be grateful each time that you don't overindulge. If you hold your thin image in your mind, eventually your actions will help you achieve the thin image that you see for yourself.
Pay Attention to Calories
If you like flavored coffee, enjoy a delicious cappuccino or latte with lots of frothy nonfat milk and cinnamon for a tasty low calorie treat and enjoy it thoroughly. Think like a thin person when opting for a food treat and you will stay thin.
Find Non-Food Treats
Going to the movies, taking a nap, or getting a pedicure are all good non-food ways to treat yourself. The list is really endless to find non-food treats that you may enjoy. To become thin, think differently and stop treating yourself with high calorie fattening foods.
Hold Your Thin Image Even When Your Will Power Fails
Diets fail and New Year's resolutions are usually forgotten after the first few months, but If you can hold a thin image of yourself in your mind, even when your will power fails you, your mind will continue to strive to achieve your goals.
This year think of yourself as a thin person and by doing so your actions will help you become what your mind has already envisioned.
